Basic Adventure Training Weekend

Over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of march, C flight held their basic adventure training. They spent the morning of Saturday at the squadron covering what kit they had brought, the benefits and the drawbacks and the technological advances in clothing.

When they arrived at Skreens park they unloaded the trailer and set off to their camp. C flight then split into two groups and had a lesson on how to assemble 2 different types of tent. Then they had to assemble their own tents after which it was time for them to have dinner. Following a lesson on how to safely use the stoves, the cadets where cooking and eating a variety of foods, from noodles to boil-in-the-bag curries. It didn’t always go to plan and some of the food was less than appetizing. Work wasn’t over yet and they headed inside for a lesson on route planning for the following day’s navigation exercise. A camp fire and some rhyming games brought the day to a perfect end.

The next day they woke up, had breakfast, packed up the tents and headed off on the navigation exercise, it took most groups 3-4 hours. After returning to the squadron they tidied up and organized their own debriefs in groups.

Cdt Wentworth told me 'it was a great weekend I would love to do it again working together showed us what people were capable of.'

Cdt Cox said 'it was fun and brought the flight closer, there was lots of team work and it gave you an insight into other walks/hikes to come'
