All Saints Church Work Party

Always keen to help out in the local community 1483 have chosen to support All Saints East Horndon Church. Although now not used for regular worship it is a beautiful church that is being preserved by a dedicated team of local volunteers, now ably supported by the cadets of 1483.

So far this year the cadets have arranged two work parties, the first consisted of six hours hard labour clearing many over-grown graves that had disappeared in the undergrowth many years before.

On the second event the team planted bulbs around the grounds which will look amazing when they burst into flower next spring.

The chancel, nave, tower, north and south transepts and north chapel date from the last quarter of the 15th century. The south chapel and porch were added during the first quarter of the succeeding century. An interesting and possibly unique feature of the church is the pair of two-storeyed transepts, supposed to have been the living quarters of chantry priests.

1483 like to recruit interest in the air cadets early. Seen here the CO’s grandson Matthew is hard at work assisting the Flight Sergeant. Future Cadet Warrant Officer Material for sure!
