Activities & Personal Development
1483 are moving up again but this time they are not assisted by two wings.

The Adventure Starts Here
Venture Adventure is the ATC Motto and this is where it all starts for our new recruits. Basic Adventure Training gives the cadets the information they need to start their Duke of Edinburgh Expeditions
Fieldcraft Training Day
Surviving on emergency rations, concealing yourself and your equipment and erecting emergency shelters. These were just a few of the activities taught on this active and fun day for the cadets.

Achievements & Recognition
Spot On Target
1483 took number 1 place in the Essex Wing Postal shoot, an outstanding achievement by the team
Supporting the Community
Emergency Services Church Parade
The men and women of our emergency services work tirelessly to protect and server our community and their efforts were recognised by a church service in their honour. 1483 were in attendance.
Half Marathon Marshalling
1483 hand out 1000’s of cups of water to thirsty runners in the Brentwood Half Marathon.

Swim to Win
1483 tasted success at the Essex Wing swimming competition with the whole team placing 2nd over all and the senior girls making a splashing in 1st place.

Remembrance Day Parade
One of the most important events in the 1483 calendar is the Remembrance Day Parade. Members of all services, in both the cadet and armed forces, marched together to the War Memorial on Shenfield Road. Three cadets from Brentwood Squadron, Cpl Botwright, Sgt Harding, and Cpl Jones, provided the guard of honour at the memorial during the service.
Out on the Water
Read about the successful launch of the 1483 new Canoe and Kayaks as the team spend a fun packed day on the River Chelmer. With there own craft they are looking forward to many more like this.
B17 Memorial Service
The sky's were clear and the sun shone warmly, as though the weather itself recognised the poignancy of the moment as a small, but thoughtful group gathered at the East Horndon church to remember one amongst countless tragic losses from WWII.
7 Gliding Scholarships in 2010
Cadet Warrant Officer Promotion
2010 was an outstanding year for gliding at 1483 with 7 cadets successfully completing their gliding scholarship.
What’s a gliding scholarship you ask? Well at 16 years of age eligable cadets can apply for a weeks long instruction in gliding. If they work very hard and impress the instructors they are allowed to make a flight in a glider on their own, yes that’s right, SOLO!
Congratulations to the successful candidates from 1483 who earned their first wings.
Falklands Competition
Inter-

1483 continued their run of success in the inter-
Running the obstacle course, shooting, archery, emergency first aid, the missile run, and a 7 mile hike with full pack navigation exercise. These were some of the activities that teams from across Essex competed in in the 2011 Falklands Competition.
Two teams from 1483 carried the hopes of the squadron and both teams improved on last years result achieving 19th and 22nd respectively.
Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Did you know that the Air Training Corps is one of the largest providers of the Duke of Edinburgh awards and 1483 aim to maintain the high standards of the organisation within our own squadron.
Find out how our cadets got on as they navigated through the New Forest carrying everything they needed to be independent for the 2 nights camping and 3 days walking.

Exercise Unity One
A weekend packed full of activities open to the entire squadron, that was the concept behind this inaugural event that has been designated Exercise Unity One and what an action packed weekend it was too
Rafting Competition
We like a challenge at 1483 and new for 2011 we introduced the summer rafting competition. On a somewhat rainy summers evening the cadets formed 3 flights and raced around the lake at Thriftwood gathering the components they needed to construct and race a raft around the island on the lake.
As well as teaching the cadets about knots and construction techniques the activity was highly competitive and loads of fun
Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Saturday 15th October saw 10 cadets set off on a Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition
around Willingale and the surrounding Essex countryside. After a final full check
of their kit they were dropped at the two churches in Willingale where they set off
to navigate around the pre-

Weald
“Fright Night” Support
We already new that cadets were a scary bunch but on the 29th of October the Cadets had a chance to put that talent to good use. From grave diggers to moaning monks the cadets enjoyed the night and helped to support the South Weald Country Park.
Congratulation go to Cadet Warrant Officer Jones who earned his promotetion to Cadet Warrant Officer (CWO) on the 9th of May 2011. The rank of CWO is the highest rank obtainable by an Air Cadet and is an appointment that can only be awarded by Wing.
All Saints East Horndon Church Work Party

1483 have chosen to support All Saint East Horndon Church. Although now redundant it is a beautiful church that is being preserved by a dedicated team of local volunteers.
Gliding has always been one of the more exotic activities that the ATC has to offer, and Sunday 20th November was no exception.
Three cadets from 1483 (first class cadets: Cox, Davies and Robinson) gathered at squadron headquarters ready for an exciting day at Wethersfield gliding school.
